Formative Research on Key Parenting Behaviors during Early Child Phase in Odisha
Early childhood (from birth to 3 years) is a critical phase of development. It lays the foundation for a child's lifelong health, learning, and well-being. Yet, over 200 million children in developing countries are unable to reach their full potential due to challenges in early childhood development (ECD). India, home to 164.5 million children aged 0-6, contributes significantly to this demographic.

This formative study, conducted in selected districts of Odisha, throws light on the context, enablers and barriers that influence the adoption of desirable parenting behaviors and ECD practices in the parents of 0–3-year-olds. It gathers insights into the current knowledge, attitude and practices followed by parents and the role of Anganwadi Workers as key change agents, serving as a starting point for strengthening ECD in Odisha.

OneStage (legally registered as Charities Aid Foundation India) and Academy of Management Studies have conducted the study, supported by the Van Leer Foundation and Government of Odisha.
